Lemon Bay Isles first two phases began with the delivery of the culvert pipe for drainage by Jolson Pipe Company of Venice Florida. The pipe was delivered by Leroy Wille in the 1970-1971 time period. Model homes were set up in the early 70’s. Almost everyone in Englewood came out to tour the models. The 55+ retirement community was welcomed by (at that time), the small Englewood community.

As word got out about the beautiful community, people from all over the country seeking a small quiet place to retire, came to tour the area and see the models that were available. All the different

models were set up in an empty lot by the front entrance, where Walgreens is today.

Toward the mid to late 80’s, lots in phase 3 and 4 were opened up for purchase and The Lakeside Clubhouse building opened upon completion in the 1988-1989 timeframe. By that time, the developer had sold ¾ of the lots in LBI Phase 3-4. The buyers could either purchase a lot(s) as desired and then seek a model and manufacturer for their home or had the option to purchase a package, which included a lot and home.

The Property Owners Association was formed March 19, 1986 and has continued through today to ensure that lots and homes are maintained in accordance with the deed restrictions.

As time has moved forward, residents have come to enjoy the beautiful pool, tennis/pickleball courts and shuffleboard games, all provided and overseen by The Lakeside Club. There are various card games, line dancing instruction, craft groups and exercise programs, as well, there is fishing in the canal and lake, and golf cart parades on Saturday evenings have evolved. Each Tuesday morning from October thru May, coffee and donuts are provided at the clubhouse. Social time is from 8:30-9:00, news and various announcements at 9:00. This is a great opportunity to meet people and find out what is going on in the community. The entertainment committee schedules dinners, holiday events, dances, and various other social activities. Once a year a yard sale, called “Trash and Treasure” is organized, which provides an opportunity to clean out and get rid of home items that are no longer being used.

Lemon Bay Isles Phase 3-4 is a thriving, active and friendly community where the residents work together to maintain its beauty and enjoy the amenities.
